THE VOICES OF GREENHAM COMMON.
A 2D short film sharing the story of the women of Greenham Common

On 5 September 1981.
A group of women marched 120 miles from Cardiff to the RAF base at Greenham Common in protest against the US Air Force holding nuclear cruise missiles on common land during the Cold War.
These women sparked the start of 19 years of protesting at Greenham, founding the Greenham Women's Peace Camp.
"Forty years ago, women around the UK descended on Berkshire in beautiful indignation, beginning an extensive campaign of non-violent actions against nuclear weapons being stored on Greenham Common. They created an exclusively female space - Greenham Women's Peace Camp - and thrived together, pushing those watching to question war, sexual orientation, and gender roles."

Enviroments.
The backgrounds were such a fun project. I opted for a linoprint style and a few changing colour palettes on a relatively simple background style to bring the not just the story but the style of Greenham to the film. The goal wasn't highly detailed backgrounds, as we weren't telling the story of one specific person or place, we were telling the story of all twenty years and all the people within that. We wanted our art to mirror the art that these women made during their time.

Character Design.
The women of Greenham Common were all very different, even each camp gate had different reputations and beliefs. Despite how different they all were, they shared a strength that brought them all together for nearly 20 years fighting for something they believed in. They were rebels, change-makers, and risk takers. We wanted to first and foremost to show this diversity and strength in our designs.
